So, I got Netflix...

...and I love it. I have three movies at a time, but I am wondering if I should upgrade to the four at a time for awhile. We'll see what happens once the honeymoon period is over.

So far I have watched Season 4 of one of my fave British comedy shows, Coupling. I hadn't ever seen this season (the final one!). It was good, but not great. One of my fave characters (Jeff) left the show and they tried to replace him by having a different actor play a new character (Oliver) who was very similar to Jeff. : (

Right now I am coming on to the tail end of a Big Love marathon. I love that show! It's about a modern day polygamist family that lives a seemingly normal life in the suburbs. I feel like I get an insight into a fascinating world that I know nothing about, and I get so attached to the characters! The actors are great, and this show is just so addicting. I get to watch the final episode of season 2 tonight. Then, I will actually get a chance to watch some movies before I start getting more tv shows again.

Anyway, I took an online survey on HBO's website and found out that I am most like Barb, the first wife. I was initially a little surprised, even though I like Barb. But then I thought about it and decided I am much more like her than I am like any of the other wives.

American?

Over the extended Thanksgiving weekend, I watached the following videos:

  • Ratatouille
  • Paris, Je'taime
  • L'auberge Espnagote (The Spanish Apartment)
  • All About My Mother
  • Black Books Series 3
  • About A Boy

All of these movies/shows take place in a foriegn country. All but one (Ratatouille) are foreign made.

Thanksgiving is very much a American holiday, yet I spent most of it watching movies that have nothing to do with America.

Anyone else find this interesting?

I am a Geek.

Over night, Mohinder Suresh has become my favorite Heroes character. Literally, overnight. He was in my dream last night (just wondering around, occasionally saying something or otherwise making his presence known, like most people who show up in my dreams) and now he is my favorite character. Yes, I like him even more than Milo Ventimiglia's Peter Petrelli (gasp).

But really, it's no wonder I like him. He's an uber-smart professor. He's one of the good guys. He's tall and lean. I think he might wear glasses sometimes (though I am not too sure). And the kicker:

He speaks with a British accent.

Like, duh. Of course I like this guy.

I am also kind of wondering if he is going to turn out to be a hero himself. His power, I think is his blood. All us Heroes geeks know that it is an antidote to a virus that is infecting some heroes. His sister was a hero, and being a hero is a genetic condition, so it is possible.

Did I just geek out too much? Well, get ready for more.

I love how all the heroes on Heroes have very different powers, and I have been thinking about what my hero power would be for a few weeks now. I have come up with this one, silly ability that I have.

I can detect British men. Seriously, if there is one within a hundred foot radius of me, I know about it even before they open their mouths. Usually, it's all about the hair, the clothes, even the way they hold themselves, but sometimes I can't even really pin point what it is. I just know.

How can I use this power to help save the world? Ummmm, maybe the demon will turn out to be British, and all we will know is that he is British and where he will be within a 100 foot radius). Then I will be able to find him and thers can take it from there.

Right?

I loved this routine!

The judges said that they didn't understand it, but they didn't feel like they had to. I loved it. I thought they were piano keys, and the dance was about pauses.

I am so my mother's daughter.

Fashion (turn to the left) Fashion (turn to the right)

"My rule of thumb is always wear what you want, when you want. That will create your own personal style and that is fashion to me"

-Betsy Johnson

I found this quote in blog-land today and it reminded me of how I used to view my relation to fashion in the pre-What not to Wear/The Girls Next Door/America's Next Top Model/The Search for the Next Pussy-Cat Doll days. Ah, simpler times.

I think I watch too much T.V.

My Vices: From most sophisticated to least

Vice #1: Wine
Red, White, Bubbles, Pinot Noir, Sauvignon Blanc, Reisling, Viogner, I love them all! My goal as a wine lover is to be able to appreciate all varitals. Varital snobs suck!

Vice #2: Chocolate
Cadbury's chocolate is the best in the world. Much thanks to Ashley's parents and Clem for keeping me stocked!

Vice #3: Reality T.V.
I never used to watch reality T.V. In fact, I used to scoff people who did. But in the last year, the number of reality T.V. shows I watch has gone from zero to three! America's Next Top Model, The Girls Next Door, and Little People Big World: yep, I watch 'em.

Why I Heart Studio 60

How much do I love Studio 60? About as much as I love avocados. If that metaphor doesn't clarify things for you, consider this: I used a whole avocado between the two sandwiches I ate today.

Amanda Peet makes me want to become a lesbian. Her character is a combination of a surprise party that actually surprises the guest of honor, and the naked hit-woman she played in "The Whole Nine Yards."

Speaking of "The Whole Nine Yards," Matthew Perry succeeds in not playing a re-vamped Chandler. Sure, he's still the comic relief on the show, but he's harder. He announces that he's hopped up on pain killers through out the show (a nod to his own former addiction, perhaps?) and he doesn't hit his jokes as hard as he did as Chandler. He even managed to tell himself to stop talking at one point (a classic Chandler move) and only make me think of Chandler a little bit.

Sarah Paulson= a long awaited break in stereotype. She plays a comedic actress who prays before each show. She makes a cameo on The 700 Club and backs up a skit called "Crazy Christians" all in the same episode.

The only worry I have for the show is this: can they live up to the precedent they have set for themselves? Within the first ten minutes of the show they beat their industry to a bloody pulp. Bam. They smack the Studio 60 logo on the screen. It’s the final, knock-out punch for the fight and thesis statement for the show. Granted, their ratings probably skyrocketed through the roof during those ten minutes, and even the entertainment industry is willing to take a few seemingly genuine jabs at themselves if it will make them popular (as Amanda Peet showed us through out the rest of the show) but how long can they keep up the act?

For a long time, I hope. I hope they take risks, and if they take it farther than their network wants them too, I hope they go out with a knock-out punch.
